Simon Cowell is to be honoured with an International Emmy award in recognition of his television work, organisers in the US have announced.

The impresario, best known for The X Factor and American Idol, has “reshaped 21st century television and music around the world,” organisers said.

Cowell said he was “delighted” at the news, adding “I’ve been very lucky to make the shows I love”.

He will collect his Founders award in New York on 22 November.  continue reading

Politico looks at the Speaker of the House’s instrumental role in pushing for reform: In the wake of Scott Brown’s victory in Massachusetts, she went toe-to-toe with Rahm Emanuel, who was advocating that the White House take a smaller, piecemeal approach. Pelosi lambasted Rahm’s approach as “incrementalist” and “Kiddie Care,” and ultimately, she prevailed. “I think [Pelosi] is the one who has kept the steel in the president’s back—and I think she represents that to Harry Reid, too,” says Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA), Pelosi’s closest friend in Congress.

Here are a few things that you can do when you are taking notes in a meeting.

1. Have a notepad that has margins on the pages that you can take with you to meetings.
2. I always start a new meeting with a fresh page where the client can not see any writing from my last meeting.  Reason is, I may have written something that is confidential from the last meeting with a potential competitor and I don’t want them to see it.
3. I always write the date, client and who was in attendance in the meeting.
4. I make notes on the items that I think at important such as; wants, needs, relevant info to the sale, etc.
5. If something is important that I should remember later, I put a star beside it in the margin.
6. If something needs to be followed up, I put “To Do” or “Follow Up” in the margin beside the item.
